AKEE/TORO PIKOPIKO PUPPETS NEWS-LETTER.
He mihi nui ki a koutou katoa. Jeffrey and Whaitaima from AKEE/ Toro Pikopiko Puppets thank the many Kohanga-reo, Pre-schools, Kindergartens, Montessori, Steiner Schools, Early Childhood Centres, Kura Māori and primary schools throughout Aotearoa, for whom we performed “Apo The Greedy Taniwha” with during 2014. We performed this show and taught the fundamentals of Numba Haka, to an estimated 20,000 children and adults in thirty-five towns and cities across Aotearoa since mid 2013.
Last year, AKEE we held professional development workshops for primary school teachers in Auckland, and teachers from the Auckland and Hutt Valley Kindergarten Associations, where we taught Te Reo Māori pronunciation using ‘Letter Head Puppets’, Numba Haka, and Practising Puppetry. To those participants of our workshops we mihi to you also, and look forward to holding more of our Action Learning PD workshops in 2015.
New on the list of AKEE Activities is Toro Pikopiko Puppets’ latest musical show, ‘MIGHTY MĀUI,’ and our Environmental Puppetry Workshops, which are on offer to years 3- 6 school children. ‘Guardians of Tangaroa’ is the first in a series of interactive Environmental Puppetry Workshops that we are holding in 2015. For primary schools in the Taupo region five free Environmental Workshops are on offer, thanks to funding from the Lake Taupo Charitable Trust. We also acknowledge 2014 development funding support from Creative NZ and Creative Taupõ which has assisted the making of sixty new puppets for the ‘MIGHTY MĀUI show.
Toro Pikopiko Puppets are hoping to ‘Extend our Fern Fronds’ by performing with your communities of children, and encouraging them to participate in the re- telling of our nations stories, within the convenience and familiarity of your own educational environments.
May you all get the rest you deserve over the Summer break. Whether we are returning or coming for the first time, we look forward to enhancing your learning spaces in 2015.
